Grab your favorite drink, sink your teeth into something decadent, sit back, relax and enjoy getting to know Janiera Eldridge

~~~
GRACEN:  Tell me three things about yourself that we cannot find on the internet or in your bio?
Janiera: My life is pretty open but a lot of people don’t know I’m a true crime enthusiast,
My favorite show is American Horror Story and I think Brittany Spears was the demise of the music industry. Basically, I keep all the dark stuff to myself. LOL.
GRACEN: What hobbies and interests do you participate in when you’re not writing?
Janiera: Reading and watching the latest documentary on Netflix. I have little free time so, I like being swept into a fantsy world when I can.
GRACEN: Do you have any writing quirks or certain things you MUST have or do before beginning the writing process?
Janiera : I must have  the TV on in the background, I don’t listen to music while I write. I find it too distracting. I don’t really pay attention to the TV and it allow me to write without my wandering too much. I know this is strange to a lot of writers but, I do my best work like this.
GRACEN: If you were plotting to take over the world, how would you do it?
Janiera: I would brainwash people into loving my books and then put all kind of super cool hidden messages in them. The world would being a reading mess if left up to me but hey we’re not doing so cool now so, I’m not sure.
GRACEN: If you could make one statement that the entire planet would hear and remember, what would it be?
Janiera: So much of life’s problems could be solved if we just loved each other more!
GRACEN:  What genre do you write and why that genre?
Janiera : I writer Urban fantasy and will soon be writing horror.  They’re my favorite genres to read for sure and  I just love making up out of the ordinary situations and characters.
GRACEN: For those who are not yet familiar with Janiera Eldridge, can you please give us some details about the book and/or series?
Janiera:  Soul Sisters will be an urban fantasy series about a pair of twins. One twin is a vampire while the other is a human. They get into some pretty scary things together. The first book Soul Sisters is about the twins fighting to take down the vampire king and exalt Ani to her place as vampire queen.
GRACEN:  Do you have any new stories in the works and can you tell us a bit about it/them?
Janiera: Dark Expectations is currently in edits an I’m really hoping for a November release. I’m also penning a mermaid horror short for a future Mystic Press horror anthology coming out in April of next year. This is my first shot at horror and I’m really excited.
GRACEN: If you could describe your writing with one word or brief phrase, what would it be? Please delve into the core of your writing to tell us what word or phrase you want readers to take with them when they’ve finished reading your story.
Janiera: Passion. I want them to know I wrote the book with passion just for each and every reader.
GRACEN: What, in your opinion, makes your story unique and what makes it stand out from other stories in your genre? Think of this as a pitch to convince readers to pick up your books.
Janiera: Well, as a young black female there are not a lot of ethnic characters in the urban fantasy genre and I really wanted to deliver a book that broke that rule of only having white main characters.  Soul Sisters has a really beautiful multi-ethnic cast and I really love that. I think my book has a unique approach to vampires and people seem to really love that as well.
GRACEN: Of all your books, which character did you have the most fun creating and why?
Janiera: Ani was definitely the best character to write.
I consider her my alter ego. She says what she feels, kicks ass first and takes names later.
GRACEN: If you had the opportunity to meet just one of your characters in real life, who would it be and why?
Janiera: It would have to be the alpha male in my book. He is in no way perfect but he is strong, sexy and cares for his women. What more could a girl want?
GRACEN: Which of your characters would you never want to meet under any circumstance and why?
Janiera: Donovan,  he is very sociopathic and would stab you in the heart without a second thought. He only cares about himself and has no empathy for others.
GRACEN:  If you were interviewing yourself, what is the one question you would ask yourself and please give us the answer to that question?
Janiera: Why the hell did you get into writing and torture yourself like this?
-       because I love it so much and thank God I’m crazy enough to do it.
GRACEN:  Thanks so much for joining us, Janiera Eldridge !  It’s been a treat getting to know you better!
EXCERPT
Chapter 1
Rebecca Thomas dipped her brush into the small pot of lip gloss and dabbed it softly on
her lips. Today had been a long day at the Lola department store. The two rich old bitties that
were usually bothering her at the makeup counter had been there earlier. Lord they got under her
skin! She checked her watch and noticed there was only forty-five minutes until the store closed
for the night. Rebecca turned from the mirror and rolled her eyes when she noticed the door to
the ladies room creak open and a beautiful cocoa-colored brunette briskly walk through it. All
she wanted was a few minutes of silence but another woman in the bathroom always spelled
noise. Damn those pesky ladies room discussions.
The bathroom was painted a soft brown with gold trim around the counters and stalls.
There was a small loveseat in the resting area. Rebecca never understood why there was a
loveseat, no one ever used it. This powder room was, however, a place of peace where Rebecca
could take a few minutes to exhale. Rebecca couldn’t help but turn her head all the way around
at such a natural beauty. She whipped her head back to the mirror when she noticed the young
woman peering straight into her eyes with a raised eyebrow. She briskly swiped the lip gloss
across her lips once more.
“You shouldn’t try so hard to be perfect, it isn’t becoming of anyone,” the woman said,
tousling her hair and looking into the mirror. She loosened the curls around her face by gently
extending them with her finger. Rebecca looked into her deep, green eyes. She felt the amount of
rudeness the woman was showing to a stranger was pretty shocking. She was startled by the
woman’s soft, but deep voice. It was deep like hot chocolate, but soothing nonetheless. She felt
she had no choice but to listen.
“Well, if you feel that way, then why are you looking in the mirror?” Rebecca rolled her
eyes, slipped the lip gloss brush and pot filled with red, strawberry-tasting liquid back in her
purse and headed for the door.
“I’m not trying to be perfect,” the woman said, staring at the back of Rebecca’s head.
“My beauty comes naturally. Your need to be perfect despite the fact that you are not is imposing
on other people’s ability to be comfortable with themselves and I find it very, very rude.” The
woman’s face looked like stone but there was a small smirk that formed at the corner of her
mouth.
Rebecca wrinkled her nose at the woman’s strange remark. Freak, she muttered in her
head. The woman’s nostrils flared, and in the second it took Rebecca to take another step toward
the door the woman was standing right in front of her.
“I really despise rudeness,” the woman said tilting her head to the right. “Well, you won’t
be a waste. I’m starving anyway.”
In a moment that seemed to defy time itself, the woman grabbed Rebecca by the neck and
sunk her teeth into a juicy vein laying right on the neck’s surface. When her teeth punctured the
flesh she could feel Rebecca’s butter soft neck break with ease under the skin. Her blood was
remarkably sweet and clean. The woman knew that the girl must have been taking very good
care of her body. No drugs or cigarettes and very little alcohol. She gradually released her grip
on Rebecca’s neck when she felt the pulse slowly die in the rock hard palm of her hands.
Rebecca collapsed on the floor like a heap of dirty laundry. She had no time to scream or cry for
help and the woman felt lucky. She could enjoy her meal in peace. The only sound anyone would
remember hearing was the clicking of her heels against the tile as she walked out of the
bathroom. She glided gracefully through the store and disappeared into the hot night air.
I would love to pick you brain about a few pointers on how you are able to get past writer's block, or if you get writer's block :-)
