GRACEN: Tell me three things about yourself that we cannot find on the internet or in your bio?
GEORGINA: 1) I am an art lover. I have a modest collection of some really lovely pieces. 2) I collect masks 3) I enjoy gaming – board & computer games. I’m particularly fond of poker.
GRACEN: What hobbies and interests do you participate in when you’re not writing?
GEORGINA When
I have the chance I enjoy reading, movies & good TV – preferably a series
on DVD or comedy cartoon shows, theatre, music etc. I try to stay active, and I
enjoy spending time with my friends and family. The usual stuff.
GRACEN: Do you have any writing quirks or certain things you MUST have or do before beginning the writing process?
GEORGINA MERRY: I’m not so sure that I do, nothing unusual or quirky any way. Just the normal stuff: peace to write and the opportunity to work for hours. I get the urge to write and just zone out. If I get an idea – like if I’m just sitting watching TV or washing dishes, whatever- I have to write it down straight away. I go into this trance like mode where I have to ignore everyone and everything around me. I stay like this until I jot down the idea in a notepad. If anything breaks my train of thought I can get pretty testy. Those who know me well enough recognize the look I get and have learned to leave me be.
GRACEN: If you were plotting to take over the world, how would you do it?
GEORGINA MERRY: Persuasion through the written word.
GRACEN: If you could make one statement that the entire planet would hear and remember, what would it be?
GEORGINA MERRY: Everybody needs to learn to get along with each other. Anyone that says otherwise needs to learn it even more so.
GRACEN: What genre do you write and why that genre?
GEORGINA MERRY: I write Young Adult, mainly themes of paranormal, adventure, and fantasy.
GRACEN: For those who are not yet familiar with GEORGINA MERRY can you please give us some details about the book and/or series?
GEORGINA MERRY: The Ferryman’s Wife is about a spoilt heiress, 16 year old Madeline Farrington who finds herself prisoner in another world. Her captor is The Ferryman, a powerful being who transports dead souls to the other side for a price. Madeline must escape or else meet a terrible fate. It’s the first book in Devils Light, which I envision as a trilogy.
GRACEN: Do you have any new stories in the works and can you tell us a bit about it/them?
GEORGINA MERRY: I am working on two projects right now. Devils Light Book 2 which is called The Heart Thief, and an epic poem for a collaborative publication called Misery Loves Company.
GRACEN: If you could describe your writing with one word or brief phrase, what would it be? Please delve into the core of your writing to tell us what word or phrase you want readers to take with them when they’ve finished reading your story.
GEORGINA MERRY: Escapism

GEORGINA MERRY: Escapism
GRACEN: What,
in your opinion, makes your story unique and what makes it stand out from other
stories in your genre? Think of this as a pitch to convince readers to pick up
your books.
GEORGINA
MERRY: It’s an unusual ride that you won’t have experienced before, bringing together
a variety of themes all in a clearly depicted reality. The main characters are
atypical, not like other YA heroines and heroes, but without being so unreal
that the reader can’t relate. If you want something out-of-the-norm then this
is for you.
GRACEN: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done in the name of research?
GEORGINA MERRY: How rubbish am I? I just don’t do weird and quirky things to write... it’s probably one of the few things about me that isn’t strange or quirky.
GRACEN: Of all your books, which character did you have the most fun creating and why?
GEORGINA MERRY: It has to be Madeline. She’s wonderfully complex and fabulously flawed. Great fun to write.

would it be and why?
GEORGINA
MERRY: Kina, because I imagine I could learn a lot from her.
GRACEN: Which of your characters would you never want to meet under any circumstance and why?
GEORGINA MERRY: I don’t want to say in case it gives any of the plot away, but there is one character in particular whose greed and cruelty frighten me.

GEORGINA MERRY: Would I like a coffee? Why, yes, I’d love one, thanks.

A spoilt heiress is propelled into a dark world
of lost souls where she is taken prisoner by powerful being known only as The
Ferryman.
Lady Madeline Farrington has what most girls want: money, beauty and a string of handsome and wealthy admirers. From a young age she's had everything she asked for. Getting what she wants has become an expectation. At sixteen both her and her cousin are of age, and are welcomed into adult society at The Duke of Angledin's ball. There she meets the mysterious and enigmatic Laurie de Bufort. She decides that she wants him too, even if it means hurting her cousin and best friend, Celia. But Madeline is about to learn that having everything you want can be dangerous, and that knowing Laurie de Bufort comes at a terrible price.

Excerpt:
After the others had left, Madeline rushed to
her bedchamber and quickly began unfolding the parchment. It was wrapped around
something gold that slipped and landed on the wooden floor with a clank.
Bending down, she noticed it was what appeared to be small, gold pendant. She
picked it up by its thin chain, placed the flat, circular object in the palm of
her hand and examined it closely. The chain ran through a square-shaped hole in
its centre. It looked like a gold coin, but it was covered with strange black
marks in language she hadn’t seen before. Still clasping the note between her
fingers, she flipped the coin over to look at the other side. The image of a
skull stared back at her with hollow eyes, the hole in the centre its gaping
mouth. With a shiver, she quickly tossed it onto her bed and continued to
unfold the parchment. It was a note from de Bufort. The handwriting was small
and slanted, but easy enough to read:
Dearest Lady Madeline,
I only imagine what you must think of me.
Words cannot express the regret I feel at having missed our second outing.
Please accept this gift as way of an apology. It belonged to my grandmother. It
would mean a lot to me if you would wear it. There is something important that
I must tell you in private. I realise that it isn’t the correct procedure in
courtship but I need to speak with you alone. This past month I have been
haunted by your beauty. I have not been able to sleep or eat. I will not rest
until I have spoken openly with you. I will be at The Dead Tree off the Eastern
Path just after sunrise. You cannot tell a soul, it has to be our secret. If
news of this were to reach your father he would stop us from seeing each other.
I’ll be waiting for you.
Yours Eternally,
LDB
Madeline read the letter once more before
rushing down to the kitchen to throw it into the furnace. As she watched it
burn she formed her escape plan. Slowly she made her way to her bedchamber and
called for her maid. Complaining of a stomach ache, she ordered that she be
left to sleep and not called for breakfast the following morning.
Once the maid had left, Madeline walked over to
where she had left the pendant on her bed. Frowning, she picked up the chain
between her thumb and forefinger and held it up to have another look. Strange
thing, she thought as it twirled in front of her, not the sort of
jewellery you’d expect a Marquienna to wear. She undid the clasp and
slipped the chain round her neck. Fastening it, she caught her reflection in
the full-length mirror. The small skull screamed silently at her. It hung off
to the side, the chain catching the corner of its mouth like a fishhook.
Wrinkling her nose in distaste she quickly turned it over to face the other
side of the strange, coin-pendant. She hoped de Bufort appreciated the gesture.
Normally she wouldn’t dream of wearing something so hideous.
